Types of Social Media Content & How to Use them for Your Small Business
“I’m on so many social media platforms that I could be considered a professional scroller.”
(ABC Radio)
Ha! If you fall in this “professional scroller” category, you know just how many types of content there are! Posts. Reels. Stories. Tweets. Photos. But how do you keep it all straight??
Don’t worry, we’re going to break down the types of content on social media, what they are used for, and examples of how to use it for your small business.
What are the different types of content?
Rather than make you read through paragraphs with everything you need to know about content, we created a little chart to summarize it all. Use this to match your goals and the platforms you use with the best type of content for your business.
Now you know what’s what and how to use the types of content correctly!
How do I pick which types of content to create for my business?
In the image below, Sprout Social researched which types of content are the most popular and most engaging for consumers.
It is important to balance this data with two questions about your specific business scenario:
What are your goals with that piece of content?
What media do you have available to you?
For example, if your goal is to gain followers (aka potential customers), then create a reel with a catchy hook and trending audio to reach and attract more people. OR if your goal is to remind your followers of an event tonight, post a story with the time, location, and a countdown timer.
Of course, the resources you have available to you may dictate your content a bit. If you’re not used to taking photos or videos it may take some practice to get in that habit. BUT don’t let fear or inexperience stop you from capturing your business in a way that will connect with others. The more you do it, the easier it will become.
Our hope is that this post will be a resource and guide you can refer back to as you’re thinking through the content for your business! So please, save it, bookmark it, share it with a friend.
And as always, we’re here to help! If you are struggling to plan, create, or capture the types of content that will propel your business forward, drop us a message!
